When the front door of your home won't lock or won't close, it can't wait until Monday. A kicked-in door, a split frame, a lock that stopped turning or a door that dropped off its hinges leaves your house open. We answer 24/7 and send a technician the same day across Toronto and the GTA to make the door secure, and repair it properly when we can do it on the spot.
Calling is fastest: 647-951-3510. Or send the form with your address and what happened and we call you right back.
No obligation. We reply quickly, 24/7.
If the house can't be locked tonight, it is an emergency.
Most emergency calls we get for front doors fall into a few situations. A break-in or attempted break-in has split the frame at the lock. The door has dropped or swollen and won't close into the frame. The lock or deadbolt has jammed, the key has broken off, or the bolt won't throw. Or the hinges have pulled out of the frame and the door is hanging.
In every one of these, the first job is the same: make the house secure before we leave. When the damage allows it, we repair the door on the same visit. When it doesn't, for example when the frame is shattered or a new door is needed, we secure the opening for the night and come back to finish the repair.
If there was a break-in, call the police first and take photos of the damage before anything is moved. Your insurance company will want them.

Nights, weekends and holidays. Front doors that won't lock get priority.
If it can't be fully fixed tonight, the door is secured so you can sleep.
Strike plates, hinges, deadbolts and reinforcement kits carried in the van.
What we see most often at night and on weekends.
The jamb has split at the strike and the deadbolt no longer has anything to lock into.
A jammed cylinder, a broken key or a bolt that won't throw.
The door has dropped, swollen or the frame has moved, so it hits the frame or misses the latch.
The hinge screws have torn out of the frame and the door is hanging.
A sidelight or door glass has been broken.
The cylinder was pulled, drilled or snapped.

First priority is a door that closes and locks.
Frame, hinge, strike and lock repairs are usually done on the first visit.
If a new door or major frame work is needed, the opening is secured for the night.
You get a written description of the work, useful for insurance claims.
What can be done on an emergency visit.
If the door itself is beyond repair, we can measure on the emergency visit and come back with the right door. See front door replacement and door slab replacement.
Most front doors fail at the frame, not the lock.
When a front door is kicked in, the deadbolt almost never breaks. What gives way is the thin wood of the door frame around the strike plate, held on by short screws. That is why a repair should do more than put the old trim back.
A heavy strike plate with long screws driven into the framing stud behind the jamb spreads the force of a kick across the wall instead of a few centimetres of trim.
Replacing one short screw in each hinge with a long one into the stud stops the door being forced from the hinge side.
Reinforcement plates around the lock stop the door itself from splitting around the deadbolt.
More on this in door reinforcement after a break-in and front door security upgrades.
