Electric strikes — where access-controlled doors actually fail
An electric strike is the part that lets a door release without touching the lock: the buzz-in at a clinic, the fob entrance at an office, the intercom door on an apartment building. When one of those stops working, the reflex is to blame the access control system. In our experience the panel is fine far more often than not, and the fault is in the opening itself.
The three we find most are alignment, power and the closer. If the door has dropped even a few millimetres the latch no longer sits cleanly in the keeper, so the strike fires but the door does not release. If the power supply is failing under load the strike buzzes without pulling. And if the closer is not pushing the door fully home, the latch never seats in the first place.

The electric strike faults we are called out for most
The strike buzzes but the door will not open
Alignment, almost always. The latch is binding in the keeper because the door has dropped or the frame has moved. We realign the opening and reset the keeper rather than replacing a working strike.
The door releases sometimes and not others
An intermittent fault is usually power under load or a worn keeper. We test the supply at the strike rather than at the panel, which is where the voltage drop actually shows up.
The strike is buzzing constantly
A stuck relay, a failed request-to-exit device or a strike that is jammed by the latch. Constant buzzing burns out the strike, so this one is worth fixing quickly.
The door does not lock again after release
The closer is not pulling the door fully home, so the latch never seats. We adjust or replace the closer as part of the same visit.
The wiring in the door loop has failed
Cables running through a transfer hinge or a door loop flex thousands of times and eventually break. We repair or replace the transfer without rewiring the whole opening.
You need fail-safe rather than fail-secure, or vice versa
On an exit route the strike must release on power loss; on a stockroom it must stay locked. We fit and configure the correct type for the opening.
