School Door Repair Toronto: Exit Doors, Classroom Doors, Closers & Secure Entrances (2026)

Schools have dozens of doors that hundreds of students push through every day: main entrances, exit doors with panic bars, stairwell and corridor fire doors, classroom doors, gym doors and portable doors. They have to stay secure from outside, open instantly from inside, and close and latch for fire safety. We repair and replace school doors and hardware for private schools, independent schools, Montessori schools and education buildings across Toronto and the GTA, after hours, on weekends and through the summer.

What School Doors Have to Do

Secure from outside, free exit from inside.

Every school door balances two rules. From outside, the building should be controlled: one main entrance where visitors are seen and buzzed in, and every other door locked. From inside, every exit door must open instantly with one push, without a key, for hundreds of students at once.

Then there are the fire doors. Stairwell and corridor doors in schools are usually fire-rated and have to close and latch by themselves. Fire inspections in Ontario check that they do, and a door with a weak closer or a latch that doesn't catch is a deficiency.

Finally, classroom doors. Many schools have upgraded classroom locks so teachers can lock the door from inside in a lockdown without stepping into the corridor. These locks need to be kept working and keyed properly.

Exit Doors and Panic Bars

The doors that matter most in an emergency.

Exit doors in schools use panic bars (exit devices) so the door opens with a push anywhere along the bar. Over time, the latches wear, the rods on vertical rod devices bend, and the strikes move, so the door either doesn't latch from outside or takes more force to open from inside.

We repair and replace rim, vertical rod and mortise exit devices, adjust strikes and rods, and check that each door opens freely and relatches. On pairs of doors, we check the flush bolts, coordinators and astragals too. See panic bar installation and fire exit doors.

Secure Main Entrance

One controlled way in.

Most schools now control visitors through a single entrance with a buzzer or intercom at the office. The door is held locked by an electric strike or mag lock and released by office staff. For this to work, the door has to close and relock every time, and the exit side has to stay free.

We install and repair these entrance systems: the locking device, the release button, the closer and the exit hardware. See electric strikes, magnetic locks and access control doors.
