How are aluminum storefront doors customized?
How are aluminum storefront doors customized, The storefront door is the #1 commercial door used for retail front entrances. As a result, if your storefront door is functioning properly, it can block traffic to your store and damage your business. This article describes how to diagnose, adjust, and repair aluminum storefront doors.
Aluminum Window Doors Slamming
One of the most common problems is aluminum window doors slamming. There are two possible scenarios here. Scenario 1 is when you only need to adjust the hydraulic door closer to the shop door. Scenario 2 is when the O-ring seal of the hydraulic door closer is ruptured and leaking hydraulic fluid. Luckily, if your door closer is defective and needs to be replaced, it is very easy to identify hydraulic fluid leaking from the door closer body.
Door Closer Adjustment Assuming no hydraulic fluid is leaking from the
door closer, in most cases, you will only need to adjust the door closer. There are two types of door closers used for commercial aluminum storefront doors. The most popular type of door closer is the panel door closer.
Surface Door Closer Adjustment
This door closer is installed on the top of the door track or the top of the door frame. There are two adjustment valves on the side of the door closer. Note that if your door closer has a plastic cover, you will need to remove the cover to access the adjustment valve.
The two valves are usually marked “S” and “L”. “S” stands for sweep speed and “L” stands for latch speed. The swing speed adjustment controls the primary speed of the door as it closes from the fully open position to approximately 10 degrees open.
Latch speed regulates the speed of the last approximately 10 degrees before the door is fully closed. In general, the locking speed can be reduced to prevent the door from slamming. Note that these valves should be adjusted 1/8 turn at a time. Do not loosen the adjustment valve completely. Fully loosening the screw fully opens the valve and allows the hydraulic fluid to escape. If the valve is loosened completely, the door closer will be beyond repair and you will need to purchase a new door closer.
Concealed Closer Adjustment
The second type of door closer that can be used for store doors is the overhead concealed door closer, also known as the transom door closer. A flat and thin door closer that can be mounted directly above the door inside the door frame.
This door closer works essentially like the door closer above, except for the fact that it is attached to the door frame. If you open the door and look at the door frame header, the aluminum plate has he two holes drilled to expose the valve adjustment screws. You can see it if you remove this plate.
